EuroTrak France 2025: strong growth in hearing aid adoption

Survey overview

EuroTrak France 2025 was conducted by Anovum on behalf of EHIMA and SNITEM. The study included a representative screening sample of 14,939 people and detailed interviews with 1,304 people with self-reported hearing loss, comprising 705 hearing aid owners and 599 non-owners.

Hearing loss and adoption

In EuroTrak France 2025, 9.7% of the total population reported hearing loss, rising to 11.5% among adults aged 18 and over. Self-reported prevalence was unchanged from 2022 at 9.7%.

Hearing aid adoption increased substantially. 55.5% of people with self-reported hearing loss used hearing aids, up from 45.7% in 2022. Across the total population, hearing aid use increased from 4.4% in 2022 to 5.4% in 2025. Among hearing aid owners in the representative screening sample, 74% had binaural treatment.

Route to hearing care

Around 33% of respondents had undergone a hearing test within the previous five years, most often with an ENT specialist, followed by family doctors and audiologists.

Among people with self-reported hearing loss, 82% had discussed their hearing loss with an ENT doctor and/or family doctor, while 67% received positive medical advice or a recommendation for further action from one of these professionals. ENT specialists played an important role in the pathway to hearing care, with 60% of ENT consultations resulting in a recommendation or prescription for hearing aids.

Satisfaction and benefits

Hearing aid users wore their devices for an average of 8.8 hours per day, compared with 8.4 hours in 2022. Overall satisfaction remained high, with 83% of hearing aid owners satisfied with their devices.

77% of owners said their hearing aids worked as expected or better, while 97% said their hearing aids improved their quality of life at least sometimes. Users also reported benefits in areas including communication, social participation and relationships at home.

There was also a strong desire for earlier intervention: 63% of owners felt they should have obtained hearing aids sooner. Among these respondents, the most commonly reported missed opportunity was a better social life.

Reimbursement and digital tools

Financial support was widespread: 90% of hearing aid owners received full or partial third-party reimbursement. Among non-owners, however, only 49% believed that at least part of the cost of a hearing aid would be covered.

Use of digital tools is also increasing. 42% of hearing aid owners used a hearing aid app, up from 35% in 2022, and 80% of app users were satisfied with the app.

Barriers to adoption

Among non-owners with more significant hearing loss, professional advice – particularly the opinions of ENT specialists and audiologists – was among the leading reasons for not having hearing aids. Affordability, discomfort and concerns about hearing aid effectiveness were also reported as barriers.

Overall, EuroTrak France 2025 shows a substantial increase in hearing aid adoption alongside high levels of user satisfaction and reported quality-of-life benefits, while highlighting continued opportunities for earlier intervention and greater awareness of financial support.
