The EuroTrak Germany 2025 survey shows that around 10.9% of the total German population report having hearing loss. Among adults (18+), the figure is 12.6%.
The EuroTrak surveys have been conducted in Germany regularly since 2009, and over the years, the prevalence of self-reported hearing loss has remained relatively stable, though adoption rates are showing a steady upward trend.
Continued growth in hearing aid use
The number of people with hearing loss who use hearing aids has continued to grow. In the 2025 survey, 47% of people with self-reported hearing loss said they use hearing aids. This is up from 41.1% in 2022 and 36.9% in 2018. Over 74% of hearing aid users in Germany use two hearing aids (binaural fitting).
Widespread benefits of hearing aids
Users report a wide range of benefits from their hearing aids. These include improvements in communication, participation in group activities, sense of safety, and social life. Hearing aids also contribute to mental and emotional well-being, with 97% of users saying their hearing aids improve their quality of life at least sometimes.
The data shows that hearing aid users are less likely to suffer from depression, have better quality sleep, and feel less exhausted in the evening, compared to those with untreated hearing loss. Moreover, 55% of employed users believe hearing aids help them stay in the workforce longer.
Desire for earlier treatment
In the survey, 64% of hearing aid users said they should have gotten their hearing aids sooner, with the main reason being that they had missed out on social interactions and emotional well-being.
Hearing tests and access
About 43% of respondents had a hearing test in the past 5 years, most often conducted by ENT specialists, followed by general practitioners and audiologists.
Paying for hearing aids
Reimbursement is widespread in Germany: 92% of hearing aid users received full or partial third-party reimbursement. However, only 37% of non-users believe they would be eligible for any reimbursement, showing a gap in public awareness about available funding support.
