World Hearing Day 2025

The World Hearing Day is observed annually on March 3rd to raise awareness about hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care worldwide. In 2025, the theme is Changing mindsets: Empower yourself to make ear and hearing care a reality for all!”

Key Messages outlined for the World Hearing Day 2025 are:

  • By 2030, more than 500 million people are projected to experience disabling hearing loss that will require rehabilitation.
  • More than one billion young people are at risk of permanent hearing loss due to prolonged exposure to loud sounds from recreational activities like music listening and video gaming.
  • Our future hearing depends on today’s care. Safe listening and good hearing practices can prevent many cases of hearing loss, while early detection and timely rehabilitation help those affected reach their full potential.

On World Hearing Day 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) will mark the launch of two significant tools:

  • Global Standard for Safe Listening in Video Games and E-sports: Developed in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), this standard aims to protect users from hearing loss associated with prolonged exposure to high sound levels in gaming environments.
  • School Module on Smart Listening: Designed for integration into educational programmes, this module educates children and adolescents on safe listening practices, promoting lifelong hearing health.

WHO encourages Member States, partners, and stakeholders to organize events that raise awareness in communities and ensure accessible ear and hearing care. Individuals are also urged to promote ear and hearing care among their peers.

By empowering ourselves and others with knowledge and resources, we can collectively work towards making ear and hearing care a reality for all.
